Why Community Building is the Key to Workplace Happiness
A Chat With the Republic Community Team
12 June 2019
In order to keep up with the demands of the modern workforce, businesses are making increasing efforts to ensure that their employees' time at the workplace is balanced and healthy.
Just 15% of businesses, however, offer wellness provisions to their staff and it is only at sites like Republic, where wellness is central to the office community, that big steps are being taken to maintain wellbeing.
Here we speak to the Republic Community team about what their vision for a workplace community as well as getting to know what makes them tick.
Alice – Yoga Instructor
What does Community mean to you?
Community is all about the people to me. It means meeting other human beings. Creating connections. It’s amazing and fascinating to me getting into contact with so many different personalities, cultures, languages, backgrounds, professional skills, passions and dreams all at once. When different life paths come across and something clicks and sparkles, it’s just magic.
Human connection. It’s enriching and heartwarming. From there we share, we support each other, we learn and we grow together. And to me that’s what life is all about.
What do you love most about working here?
I love the vibe in East London its so innovative, creative, dynamic and independent. From the first time you step into Import Building with its edgy architecture, you can breathe something cool is happening in the air here. It’s a pure energy. Things are happening. And it’s just the beginning. Not all workplaces are like this. I feel very grateful to work here.
If you were a Superhero, what would your SuperPower be?
I would be able to slow down and crystallise time to be fully present and mindful through all my life. Stop, pause, breath, feel, sense…maybe rewind?, and play again.
Craig – Wellness Programme Curator
What does Community mean to you?
Community is a critical aspect of your overall well-being, and it’s important to find yours! Whether it’s your gym community, church community, neighbourhood community, or your Republic Community!
It’s about finding your space to be with other individuals that inspire you to be the best version of yourself.
What do you love most about working here?
It’s such a unique benefit to work in a building that has a whole programme dedicated to providing incredible experiences to tenants. I love being able to be a part of that.
If you were a Superhero, what would your SuperPower be?
In a nutshell, I just want to solve global warming. There’s no Planet B!
Chantal – Venue Coordinator
What does Community mean to you?
Community to me is a shared ideology of support and the desire to see others thrive. It’s the perfect incubator to nurture whilst empowering (and allowing) others to be their truest selves.
What do you love most about working here?
I love the humanistic approach. The fact that all team members are human first and ‘employee’ second.
If you were a Superhero, what would your SuperPower be?
I would have the power to even the financial playing field so that financial lack could no longer be a barrier to proper holistic and integrative healthcare, travel and higher education.
Mandy, Front of House

Community means coming together to connect with people from all different backgrounds, recognising our commonalities, and learning something new about life! It’s about feeling a part of something bigger!
What do you love most about working here?
Meeting new people every single day and never knowing what to expect!
If you were a Superhero, what would your SuperPower be?
To speak every language in the world!
Kelly, Community Manager
What does Community mean to you?
Community to me means, connection and building relationships through common understanding. It means being apart of something and contributing to something greater than ourselves.
What do you love most about working here?
I absolutely love the space, it is beautifully dramatic and innovative. I also love the Community programme, it is so amazing to bring light and joy to people’s working day.
If you were a Superhero, what would your SuperPower be?
I would instil internal peace and happiness into everyone, so irrespective of environment, circumstance, material item, person or thing, we would all be at peace with ourselves and happy on the inside.
