Architecture charity Open City runs a Canary Wharf and East India Docks walking tour that finishes here at Republic. Led by guide Rosamund Lily West, the two-hour walk follows the northern Isle of Dogs from its time at the centre of a global trading empire, built on colonial trade and slavery, through industrial decline to the towers and regeneration of today.
The route starts at West India Quay and takes in the Grade I-listed sugar warehouses and the Crossrail Place roof garden. It ends at East India Dock, where the East India Company once landed tea, spices and silk.
Republic has worked with Open City since 2021, when we supported the charity with office space on campus. The next walk is on Saturday 31 October at 10.30am, and Open City runs it every few months.
Saturday 31 October, 10.30am to around 12.30pm
Meet outside West India Quay DLR. The walk finishes at Republic, 2 Clove Crescent, E14 2BE.
Tickets £19.50; £13.50 over 65s; £9.50 under 25s and people on income support or jobseeker’s allowance.
