Bhasha Unbound: Through Each Other’s Eyes
A free art and storytelling workshop for families, by Oitij-jo Collective at Republic.
Looking for something to do with the kids this summer? Visit Republic for a gentle, creative session where parents and children (age 8+) sit side by side to talk, draw, and imagine each other’s lives beyond the everyday.
“What was your mum like when she was your age?”
“Who do you think your child might become when they grow up?”
These quiet questions sit at the heart of Bhasha Unbound.
What to expect:
🖌️A two-hour guided workshop for families
🖌️Storytelling and drawing activities suitable for all ages
🖌️No experience needed – just curiosity and imagination
🖌️All artworks will become part of a public exhibition
Why ‘Bhasha’?
Bhasha means language in Bengali – a reflection of the workshop’s focus on intergenerational dialogue, cultural identity and self-expression across languages and lived experience.
To book your place, please email culture@oitij-jo.org with your name and how many people will attend. Open to all, with priority given to families based in Tower Hamlets as part of this community-rooted East London project. Facilitated by Jannat Hussain. Supported by Tower Hamlets Council @towerhamletsnow and Republic London @republic.ldn.
Oitij-jo Collective is a registered charity, with a focus on Bengali culture and arts. They are currently based in free meanwhile space at our East India campus as part of our commitment to community-led cultural programming.
