We caught up with Holistic nutritionist & Yoga Lover, Mary McMillian, ahead of her second lunch-time talk take-over at Republic.
What inspired you to take this path of work?
I’ve always been fascinated by plants. Growing up my grandparents grew vegetables & I loved helping/learning from them. As I got older I started to realise the importance of real, fresh food so I decided to study Nutrition. In my course we had a Herbal Medicine class, and the first day I fell in love. Now I can’t get enough of this plethora of Plant Magic!
What’s your opinion on planets states of health right now?
I think we all need an upgrade, but realistically it’s actually taking a step back to the traditional way. Real fresh local foods, home-cooked healthy meals & lot’s more time spent in nature. I think stress & our busy lifestyles make health a secondary thought or nuisance but really it should be on the forefront of our minds. Our bodies are our homes after all. How wonderful would we all feel if we were really eating happy & healthy foods?
Who inspires you?
I love many of my teachers back in Canada – especially Melanie Philips & Marisa Marciano. Big time idols in my field would be Susan Weed & Mrs. M Grieves.
If you had one message for everyone to hear, what would it be?
Fill your body & your mind with love & kindness and watch how your life changes. Make yourself & your heath a priority.
